Objective
This is a training exercise to build stamina, consistency & allow training while being focused on specific form areas without the complexity of aiming.
Preparation
- Your complete bow setup, ready to shoot.
- Set up a target butt at about 2m.
- Make sure you have sufficient serviceable arrows, preferably more than 6.
- Ensure that you’re warmed up.
Technique
- Shoot at random positions on the butt:
- Ensure good form
- Be methodical
- Select a specific area to concentrate on and make sure you become comfortable and familiar to what it should feel like during a good shot.
Notes
- This is a very useful exercise to remove aiming from the complexity of the shooting process. This allows you to shoot quality, form-based shots.
- Training areas that can benefit from this exercise include:
- Balance: Posture & Stance
- Acquisition: Set-Up, Draw & Anchor
- Release: Shot Timing/Sequence & Follow-through
- You can also use it to test new equipment, changes and upgrades, before going out to distance.
- Make sure to make notes of all changes with a date and time. This allow you to correlate the change over time with the scores that would be affected.
Step it up
You can step up Blank Baling in various ways:
- Come to anchor, and then close your eyes. Go through with the shot.
- Get into the set position and then close your eyes. Go through with the shot.
This can only be done in a very safe environment while under supervision.
