Training Tools

When an archer is training, they need to train with structure & purpose. Whether an archer does that on their own or through the support of a coach or mentor would depend on their situation.

The approach to training is multi-fold:

  • Physical & Mental Training
    • Archery Specific Training
Archery is a very mentally focused sport, and mental preparation plays an important part in the shot process. Archery specific training exercises are thus geared toward both physical and mental preparation.
    • General Cardio Fitness
Recommended to consult a physical training specialist.
    • Strength & conditioning
It is recommended to consult a physical training specialist, keeping in mind the specific areas of focus which is important for archery.
  • Archery Technique
  • Equipment
Make sure that equipment is well maintained, suitable and suitably prepared.

Planning & Goal Setting

Training and preparation should be looked at in the context of short-, medium- and long-term goals. Using the SMART goals framework is an effective way of transforming aspirations into concrete trackable goals which can assist in attaining positive outcomes.

SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Make sure each session has a specific purpose.

Archery Coaching

A coach will assist an archer with at least the following:

  • performance planning
  • equipment maintenance reviews
  • goal setting
  • competition preparation & readiness

Performance comes from taking responsibility for your training and your goals.
