Game: Butt Race

Objective

Race your target butts and the first to complete the goal distance wins.

Preparation

  • A group of at least two archers, each with a complete bow setup, who can compete as individuals or the group can be divided into teams.
  • A target butt per archer/team, with an appropriatte target face.
  • Agree to a starting distance and a finishing distance, such as start at 10m, first to complete 50m is the winner.

Technique

  • Each target butt is placed at the chosen starting distance.
  • The archers shoot at their own butt as individuals or teams.
    • The aim is to shoot all of the arrows into the gold. If the archer/team succeeds, they can move their butt 5m closer to the agreed to finishing distance.
    • First to complete the finishing distance is the winner.

Notes

  • You can mix bow types and genders.

Step it up

  • You can establish a handicap system whereby a team/archer has to:
    • Shoot on a specific target face, like an 80cm 6-ring vs. a 122cm full face.
    • Shoot all arrows 8, or better, rather than an all gold.
    • Shoot all 10s, rather than all gold.
  • If the archer/team do not shoot the agreed to handicap score, i.e., all gold, and have progressed from the starting distance, the target butt gets moved back towards the starting distance.
