Objective
A fun group activity which helps to build concentration and performance under pressure.
Preparation
- Two archers, each with a complete bow setup, ready to shoot.
- Place three 3-spot targets next to each other on the butt at a selected distance such as 10m. Ensure the spacing is such that the 9 target faces forms a 3 x 3 square.
- Do not put any pins in the shooting area!
- Determine a handicap system for each archer, as example:
- For Archer A to shoot a valid arrow, they have to score a 9, or better.
- For Archer B to shoot a valid arrow, they have to score a 10.
- Determine who goes first by having a closest to the centre shoot-off.
Technique
- Each archers takes a turn to safely shoot one arrow.
- If the archer who’s turn it is shoot a valid arrow, they claim that face.
- The aim is to have three faces, either diagonally, vertically or horizontally.
- Archers take turns until they run out of faces, or there is a winner.
Notes
- The idea is to claim three in a row, just line in the traditional Tic-Tac-Toe, except that you forfeit your turn if you don’t shoot a valid arrow. That leaves the face you aimed at as fair game for your opponant.
- You can mix bow types and genders.
Step it up
- To adjust the handicap for an archer, you can adapt the size of their target to shoot a valid arrow. An inside out 10 on a standard three-spot indoor face is the most challenging.
