Bow: Stabiliser Tuning

Objective

Set the stabilisers up to help keep you still, not make you hold still. A proper setup will also assist in making the bow more forgiving during the release of the arrow, when the archer has effectively lost control over the bow. This leads to improved consistency and arrow flight by affecting how the arrow leaves the bow.

Preparation

Place a target with an 80cm 6-ring World Archery face (or similar) at a selected distance, like 30m. This is a starting distance.

Ensure you have the correct tools available to move the stabilisers as well as add and remove weights.

At this stage your stabilisers would already be set up, but not yet finalised.

Technique

  1. Aim at the centre of the target.
  2. Twist the riser to point the pin/dot left or right to the side of the ten-ring.
  3. With your wrist remaining in this torqued position, aim the pin to the centre of the target.
  4. Take the shot & record the result.
  5. Adjust as necessary – Move the sight to get a rough setting, and the rest for fine adjustment:
    • Sight: Move one position at a time
    • Rest: Move in small increments, for example 1mm at a time.

Repeat until the torqued arrow and a normal arrow hit in the same place, or very close together. Ensure to test both left and right.
